SBP governor lauds Punjab over uplift plan

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain has lauded the economic and development programme of Punjab government and said that other provinces should also expedite the process of their development programmes on the pattern of Punjab.
He expressed these views at a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi here on Sunday, an official said. Dr Ishrat said that credit "goes to provincial political leadership" that right steps had been taken in order to solve the real problems of education, health and other sectors. Economic planning of Punjab government has proved to be the best in accelerating the pace of development in the province, he added.
The Chief Minister said that his government was ensuring provision of resources for expediting the pace of social development in the province. "Process of computerisation is being promoted for improvement of government institutions as well as transparency and harmonising the functioning of government departments in accordance with the demands of the modern age," he added.
According to him, reform process in all government sectors has been accelerated while professional training of government employees was an important part of government policy, which was resulting in betterment of administrative affairs and working of government departments. Due to local as well as foreign investment in the province, social sector development has been expedited as a result of which unemployment and poverty was being reduced. Monitoring system has been evolved for the capacity building of government departments, which was resulting in transparency and proper utilisation of funds as well as timely and quality construction of the development projects in the province.
Moreover, the process of approval of development projects has been simplified.
He praised the State Bank Governor for providing guidance and support to Punjab government in its financial and developmental affairs.
