The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) would be catering to the needs of micro industry in its future plans. It was disclosed by Alamgir Chaudhry, provincial chief Smeda-Punjab in a meeting held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) here on Tuesday.
The meeting was arranged in order to give an overview of Smeda's role and activities in the development of SME sector to the newly elected members of the LCCI. Nauman Kabeer, Member, Executive Committee of LCCI chaired the meeting. Alamgir Chaudhry gave a presentation on Smeda and its future plans.
He also told the members about various initiatives taken by Smeda in different sectors including Gems and Jewellery, Dairy, Livestock, and Agriculture etc. He said that Smeda is working for the development of small and medium enterprises for the last seven years.
He admitted that the cottage industry had not been a priority sector for Smeda. However, as per new SME policy, it would become possible for Smeda to include the micro industry in its future development plans.-PR
