International Banking, Finance Asia 2006 to be held in March

International Banking and Finance Asia 2006 Exhibition to be held at Karachi Expo Centre from March 9 to 11 next, will showcase emerging capabilities of Pakistan in the banking sector.
The exhibition being held in conjunction with 3rd ITIF Asia - E-commerce Gateway, is aimed at focussing on the immense potential of financial sector in Pakistan and the international markets.
It is being organised by Ecommerce Gateway (Pvt) Limited and Jamal's Yellow Pages of Pakistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Privatisation and Investment and the State Bank of Pakistan.
The banking and finance sector of any country serves as a fuel for the industrial, scientific, military and economical advancements towards betterment and prosperity.
In Pakistan this sector comprises commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), microfinance banks (MFBs), non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), leasing companies, investment banks, discount houses, housing finance companies, venture capital companies, mutual funds, modarabas, stock exchange and insurance companies.
Under the prevalent legislative structure, the supervisory responsibilities in case of banks, DFIs, and MFBs fall within the legal ambit of State Bank of Pakistan while the rest of the financial institutions are monitored by other authorities such as Securities and Exchange Commission and Controller of Insurance.
The exhibition, one of the most promising and enduring exhibitions is being organised at a time when the government is looking forward to expand the banking sector of the country which has shown tremendous growth in the past few years.
