Peshawar dry port problems discussed

A delegation comprising businessmen, importers, exporters and custom clearing agents of NWFP held a meeting with high ranking officials of Pakistan Railways.
According to a press release issued by Chairman Custom Clearing Agents NWFP, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, here on Wednesday, the meeting was held in pursuance of the directives of Chairman Railways, Shakeel Durrani.
The meeting discussed how to improve conditions of existing dry port in Peshawar, establishment of a new dry port at Azhakhel and other problems confronted by importers and exporters of the province.
The businessmen demanded initiation of special cargo train from Peshawar in pattern with Lahore, construction of new sheds at dry port, completion of boundary wall, setting up of canteen, security arrangements for goods to be exported abroad through Karachi, provision of facilities to people involved in transit trade.
They also demanded avoiding handing over of dry ports to Pracs, handing over controls of city railway booking agencies to previous owners, construction of over head bridge at Kundian Junction, starting new non-stop trains from Karachi and holding of Railway Advisory Committee on regular basis.
Earlier, the railway officials, including Assistant General Manager (Freight), Ali Arif, Director Operation, Nasir Zaidi, Deputy Chief Commercial Manger, Imtiaz Rizvi and Divisional Superintendent Karachi, Junaid Qureshi, visited Peshawar City, especially Cantt Railway Station and Dry port.
Railway officials assured the businessmen of solving their problems on priority basis.-PR
