Awards to Ukrainian medical team

24 Nov, 2005

This is with reference to the devastating earthquake which left millions homeless and thousands dead at NWFP and AJK.First of all I would like to appreciate the efforts made by the Government of Pakistan artillery the Government of NWFP and AJK Government in most crucial time of the earthquake.
I am writing this letter in your good office for recognising the services rendered by the Ukrainian medical team at Basham.
There were numbers of teams from different countries working in NWFP and AJK .We, as a whole nation, respect their in time help.
I spent a couple of days with the Ukrainian medical team, which was fully equipped with most modern medical staff, including leading doctors and paramedics from Emergency Relief department of Ukraine.
This team treated 11,000 patients; they conducted 160 operations, including major ones of serious nature. Seven children were born at this camp.
Local people were very happy and satisfied with the services rendered by team. I suggest the Government of NWFP to pursue with the federal government for giving national and other civilian awards for the rescuing teams of various countries, particularly Ukraine.
I believe this will be a good gesture to increase Pakistan's image among friendly countries. It is also suggested that prominent places and streets should be named per countries that participated in the rescuing operation.
