Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Secretary General Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called upon religious scholars, religious institutions and Islamists of Pakistan to stand firm against the forces who wanted to destroy religious and ideological bonds of Pakistan.
"Military government is filing cases of treason on criticism against them and it is responsibility of the religious forces to strive hard for protection of faith and ideology", Fazl said while addressing the Jumma congregation and inaugural ceremony of Tahir Nadeem Academy in Rawalpindi.
NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani and other senior leaders of MMA also addressed on the occasion. Moulana Fazlur Rehman said present rulers had no right of representation of general public as they had caused hell for general public due to uncontrolled inflation and other social problems. "Rulers who have no mercy for poor people should have no right to call themselves as representatives of masses", he added.
He said that western forces had bent upon to invade Pakistan through different means and snatch the Islamic identity of Pakistan. "Our rulers are helping them in this nefarious move and they are using all their resources and energies to put Pakistanis on a path of infidelity", Fazl said and called upon religious scholars, students of madaris to play their effective role to frustrate the evil designs of west.
Criticising the Musharraf Government, Fazlur Rehman said it was irony of fate that a student of religious institution could come in the parliament but could not contest elections for local body institute. The Local Body system had caused lot of confusions and became a source of nuisance for general public.
Speaking on the occasion, NWFP Chief Minister Muhammad Akram Durrani said NWFP Government would construct houses for the affected people in quake hit areas of the province. "Balakot has its historical importance and this city has always remained a source of encouragement for the Islamists of this region. The struggle of "Shuhada e Balakot" for glory of Islam will remain alive till lasting world", he added.
He said that NWFP government would construct the Balakot City in a way to make it a model and a beautiful city. He said Punjab government had donated Rs 50 million to NWFP for quake hit areas, while Sindh and Balochistan governments had also helped NWFP.
Durrani was critical about negative propaganda against religious institutions and said madaris were guards of the religious and ideological frontiers of Pakistan and any maligned eye on their role would be tarnished.
