Business Recorder Road widening to start next week

26 Nov, 2005

Karachi City District Government (CDGK) will start work of reconstruction and widening of Business Recorder Road next week. The width of the road would become 120 feet, in accordance with the master plan, after its reconstruction and widening, said a CDGK handout issued here on Friday.
City Nazim Mustafa Kamal had directed the Works & Services Department of CDGK to forthwith start work on reconstruction and widening of Business Recorder Road and remove all encroachments hindering the project.
On Friday, EDO, Works & Services Sarfaraz Shah and EDO Revenue Hashim Raza visited Business Recorder Road and inspected the encroachment removal work there. They were briefed that the project, to cost more than Rs 56 million, included widening of both tracks from Nazimabad roundabout to Guru Mandir to 120 feet. Construction of the road from Nazimabad roundabout to Lasbela House Chowk has been completed and encroachments were voluntarily removed.
Business Recorder Road - from Lasbela House Chowk to Guru Mandir - is 120 feet wide in the master plan, but it had shrunk to 85 to 90 feet due to encroachments. Reconstruction and widening of the road to 120 feet will be carried out from next week by removing encroachments up to 15 feet each--from both sides of the road.
However, it has been decided that a joint meeting of Revenue and Works & Services Departments would be held on Monday to devise strategy for removing the encroachments.
