Setting up of Punjab education commission under study

Punjab government actively considering to set up Provincial Education Commission (EC) under which uniform question papers would be set for 5th and 8th stages to assess abilities of all students by same standard all across the province.
This was informed in a high level meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique here on Friday, to review various aspects of proposed commission.
Provincial Secretary Education, Secretary Schools, Project Director Punjab Education Sectors Reforms Programme, Programme Director of Staff Development Directorate and Unicef consultant were present in the meeting.
It was further informed the said Education Commission was aimed at besides evolving same examination standard for all areas of the province and conduct of examinations simultaneously throughout the Punjab province. Moreover, uniform standard of marking of answer sheets would also be ensured for evaluating the educational abilities of students.
Under the present system, examination standard of different areas varies, resulting in difficulties for evaluating the abilities of students.
The meeting was informed that proposed Education Commission besides reformation of educational system would also take measures for promotion of research in education sector and capacity building of teachers. It was told in the meeting that due to standardisation of examination system, a positive trend of competition would be promoted at the school level.
Meanwhile, in another high-level meeting of Design Committee under chairmanship of the Punjab Chief Secretary, it was informed two more stories would be added to the existing building of Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore. Members of the Committee and representatives of Nespak and PC Hotel were present on the occasion.
It was also informed in the meeting that while undertaking this project due attention would be paid to the safety of the building. Parking space at the hotel would also be increased so that there should not be rush of traffic in front of the hotel at Mall Road, during functions, it added.
