The Federal government has established Pakistan Dairy Company (PDC) with the aim of increasing milk production in the country, for which the government has acquired Rs 2 billion loan and sanctioned Rs 500 million grant.
Sources disclosed this to Business Recorder here on Thursday. They said that the company has been registered and its board of directors has also been constituted. PDC would open 100 model dairy farms throughout the country and it has been assigned the target of increasing the production of milk by three times and maintaining marketing, quality and price of milk.
According to them, the project was executed under the public-private partnership, while the management has been given to the private sector. Among the companies from private sector involved in the management were Nestle and Nirala.
The sources averred that while the federal government would repay the mark-up on the loan, the company would be responsible for the repayment of the principal amount.
