Board formed to oversee SSC functions

The Sindh government has constituted a 13-member managing board for to oversee the functioning of the recently revived Sindh Seed Corporation (SSC) regarding production, multiplication, procurement, processing and supplying of basic and certified seed of different crops with an objective of improving crop yields in the province.
According to a spokesman of Sindh Agriculture Department, the managing board would be headed by Lieutenant General Siranjam Khan (Retd), while Gada Hussain Mahesar from Larkana, Haji Muhammad Aslam from Mirpurkhas, Abdul Jabbar Pathan from Sanghar, Ghani Dars from Tando Allahyar, Major Choudhry Umer Farooq (Retd) from Badin and Aqib Khan Jatoi from Naushero Feroz would be the members.
Other members of the Managing Board include Provincial Secretary for Agriculture, Managing Director Sindh Seed Corporation, one representative each from Punjab Seed Corporation and Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department and two representatives from private seed companies.
The Board would hold, control and administer property, funds and resources of the corporation and raise new funds to make it a financially viable organisation for serving the interests of farmer community and agriculture sector in Sindh.
The Board will formulate and approve policies and plans governing activities and operations of the corporation to facilitate its privatisation or leasing out to better management and to gradually make in an autonomous body.
The Board would also monitor and evaluate activities of Sindh Seed Corporation for quality assurance and take action of removal and recruitment of officers and officials including Managing Director.
