Deadline for banks extended to June 30

27 Nov, 2005

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has extended, up to June 30, 2006, the deadline for receiving Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) by commercial banks from their customers.
The SBP in its circular No 18 dated June 2, 2005, had asked the banks to collect photocopies of CNIC of all their clients by November 30, 2005, but the central bank received representations from Pakistan Banks' Association (PBA) telling about inability to meet the deadline.
The central bank has now advised all the banks /DFIs to confirm compliance with the instructions up to the new date, ie June 30, 2006.
