Pemra, TV channels served pre-admission notices

29 Nov, 2005

Pre-admission notices were issued to Pakistan Electronic Media Registration Authority (Pemra), a number of private news television channels and cable operators by the Supreme Court's Karachi registry in a constitution petition filed by Haji Gul Ahmed, Amir Anjuman-e-Islami for Social Revolution.
The petitioner maintained that obscene films are being televised on channels, which hurt the feelings of Muslims and this was a violation of Article 2-A of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Pemra was supposed to monitor and take action against these channels and channel operators but it failed and thus people of Pakistan are looking towards the superior court for taking action.
