'CBR has made laws easier to facilitate taxpayers'

01 Dec, 2005

The Central Board of Revenue has introduced free from burden system and made the laws easier to remove the hurdles and difficulties faced by taxpayers.
This was stated by Collector, Customs, Sales Tax and Federal Excise, M B Tahir, while addressing a seminar here, organised by Pakistan Institute of Chartered Accountants on the topic of 'Judicial Proceedings under Sales Tax Laws'.
He said that taxpayers have been facing difficulties due to lack of paying proper attention on tax payers' cases by the concerned officials. Some officials dishonestly and consciously avoided deeply checking taxpayers' cases for their vested interest but the religion of Islam does not allow such action.
The CBR has taken effective steps regarding tax policy to end the miseries of taxpayers.
All Pakistan Tax Bar Association President Younis Ghazi said that 29 amendments have been done in sales tax law since its induction in 1996, which has practically changed the actual picture of sales tax law, and the taxpayers were facing serious problems.
He said the department of Federal Ombudsman has become ineffective which was creating hurdles in the way of swift tax recovery.
Pakistan Institute of Chartered Accountants member Talat Javed Pall, Additional Collector, Sales Tax Ijaz Jafery and others spoke on the occasion.
Later, the participants put questions of different nature about flaws in judicial proceedings.
