01 Dec, 2005

US blue chip stocks turned lower on Wednesday as shares of financial companies, including American Express Co, fell after a regional business conditions report came in stronger than expected, fuelling concerns about higher inflation and interest rates.
The Nasdaq clung to narrow gains, helped by semiconductor shares.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 12.65 points, or 0.12 percent, at 10,875.51. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 1.74 points, or 0.14 percent, at 1,255.74. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.80 points, or 0.21 percent, at 2,237.51.
