AT&T Inc adopting 'T' symbol

01 Dec, 2005

The telecommunications company formed following SBC Communications Inc's November 18 acquisition of AT&T Corp said it will start trade under the "T" symbol, starting Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
Stock of that company, now known as AT&T Inc, has traded under the "SBC" symbol since the buyer changed its name following its acquisition of AT&T.
The single-letter "T" symbol has been used for more than a century, beginning in 1888 on the Boston Stock Exchange, when it was used to identify shares of American Bell, predecessor of American Telephone and Telegraph Co. In 1901, American Telephone and Telegraph started trading under the symbol "ATT" on the New York Stock Exchange.
