Intel names new sales, technology chiefs

03 Dec, 2005

Intel Corp on Thursday named new top executives of the sales and technology operations of the world's largest chip maker. Eric Kim, who joined Intel from Samsung Electronics last year, was promoted to senior vice president for sales and marketing and named as the company's first chief marketing officer.
Kim will share responsibility with Anand Chandrasekher, who was also elevated to senior vice president of the group in line with Intel's "two in the box" management philosophy that pairs up executives.
Chandrasekher has risen through the ranks since joining Intel in 1988, serving as the technical assistant to former Chief Executive Craig Barrett and guiding development of the company's Centrino mobile technology.
The two will be in charge of global sales, which hit $34.2 billion in 2004 and are expected to rise about 15 percent this year amid solid sales of personal computers and laptops. "The creation of the CMO position certainly points to the increased importance of marketing and the focus that Intel has on marketing platforms," spokesman Tom Beermann said.
