Rapeseeds and rice turn lower in thin trade

03 Dec, 2005

Falling trend was seen in the grain market on Friday amid low business following the steady arrivals from upcountry markets, dealers said.
Weaker trend persisted on the seeds side as cottonseed oilcake with bag extended its fall on satisfactory supply position, shedding five rupees further at Rs 440-450, dealers said.
Rapeseed Dadulane inferior type shed Rs 10 to Rs 640 while the best quality maintained the overnight level at Rs 675.
Falling demand by exporters pushed the rice prices down in the local market as the Irri white good type shed Rs 10 at Rs 925 while the low type stayed put at Rs 900, dealers said and adding that the rice prices shed on sluggish demand in the overseas markets.
Higher prices were the main hurdle in falling demand by the foreign buyers as they were preferring to purchase from Indian and Vietnamese markets as prices were matching with their psychological levels, market sources said.
