Turkey has decided to construct ten school buildings each having the capacity to house 500 students in the quake-hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP.
A 15-member delegation of City Mayors from Turkey, at a reception hosted in their honour here, said that agreement with a local construction company had been finalised in this regard.
The reception was also attended by the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad Kamran Lashari, Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Air-Vice Marshal (Retd) Sarfraz and other Pakistani officials who welcomed Turk Mayors and thanked their support in relief, rescue, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the earthquake-affected areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Turkish Mayors said Pakistanis and Turks were one nation and Turks were grateful to historic support extended by the Muslims of the Sub Continent to Turkish people in their struggle in 1919-1922.
They regretted that the international community had failed to help Pakistan, as it should have been as the disaster was greater than the tsunami as Turkish Prime Minister said during his visit to quake-stricken areas.
The function was informed that six schools would be constructed in Muzaffarabad, two each in Mansehra and Balakot.
Turkey would also provide the educational furniture and stationary.
