The entire police network in Punjab is being equipped with most modern technology to combat crimes and ensure complete law and order to make it a model province, the Punjab Inspector General of Police Zia-ul-Hassan Khan said here on Saturday.
Briefly speaking at the inaugural ceremony of newly constructed building of "Rescue 15" centre here, he said the centre was equipped with a logging system software which would be beneficial both for Lahore Police and the citizens of Lahore. He said main object of that rescue centre was to minimise responding time to distress calls by the citizens.
He said timely receipt of information coupled with pursuit of criminals and outlaws by the police would not only restore public faith in police but also go a long way in providing tranquil streets, free of crimes and criminals.
He said those steps would contribute to achieve the goal of "Mahfooz Punjab" a province where citizens would pursue every day affairs without fear.
Zia ul Hassan said policing in the 21st century was an amalgamation of the characteristics of being a force and a service. In the first 150 years of its existence, police department was predominately considered to be a force solely used for implementation of the writ of government.
However, starting in 1980's transition towards making police a public service started and gathered momentum in the 1990's, he said.
He said that all out efforts were being made to transform police as a public friendly service.
The IG has shown performance in bringing down the crime graph from daily 50 to 18 cases of violation of law.
Capital City Police Officer - DIG Tariq Saleem Dogar said newly established centre would cater the needs for emergency helpline, traffic police help line, ambulance service, legal advice, children lost and found service, domestic violence and rapid elite force response.
Additional Inspector Generals Dr Syed Azhar Hassan Nadeem, Salah Uddin Khan Niazi, Tahir Anwar Pasha, DIGs Syed Muhammad Saqlain Naqvi, Anwar Virk, Muhammad Waseem, Muhammad Fayyaz Mir, Nawaz Warriach and SSPs and others attended the well-crowded ceremony.
