The government has asked the customs officials to facilitate the trucks containing food items coming from India through Wagah border.
Dr Salman Shah, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs and Statistics, held a meeting with senior officials from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Food and Agriculture, Interior, Statistics and Revenue Divisions, Pakistan Rangers and customs to discuss ways to facilitate import of food items from India through Wagah border land route.
The representative from Pakistan Rangers gave a briefing about the impediments in the way of Pak-India trade through land route.
Dr Salman asked the Foreign Office representative to initiate dialogue with the Indian officials to provide facilitation to Pakistan''s importers on reciprocal basis.
He also directed the Customs Department and Pakistan Rangers present in the meeting to facilitate trucks to come up to the Pakistan Customs stations inside Pakistan territory, unload and go back. He further asked the Foreign Office to take up the matter with the concerned Indian officials to set up a quarantine station on the Indian side close to Pak borders to facilitate expeditious clearance of live animals.
He asked the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Office to take up the visa issue for Pakistan''s importers with the relevant Indian officials.
