Bollywood romance hero Saif Ali Khan was given bail after he admitted to police his car hit a 13-year-old boy and fractured his leg in the western Indian city of Mumbai, police said Sunday.
The accident happened in the crowded Mumbai suburb of Andheri on Saturday while Khan was returning from a rehearsal for television channel MTV.
"My car skidded off the road and hit the leg of a child who came in front of it. Immediately, I got out off my car and put the child into my car and drove him to a nearby hospital," Khan told reporters.
"Later, I informed the police, who let me out on bail," he said, adding that he would bear the medical expenses of the child.
Saif Ali Khan, the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore, has delivered a string of hit romantic films in recent months.
His compatriot Salman Khan was in the headlines for months after being involved in a hit-and-run case in 2002, which killed one and injured four homeless people who had been sleeping on a Mumbai street.
