WAPDA making strides to add 10,738 MW cheap hydel electricity to national grid

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is working on some nine hydropower projects which will add 10,738 MW cheap hydel electricity to the national grid system on completion.

Giving the details, Official sources told APP here that these projects included 969 MW Neelum Jhelum Hydropower project, 1410 MW Tarbela 4th extension project, 1410 MW Tarbela 5th extension project, 108 Golen Gol project, 2160 MW Dasu (Stage-1), 18.9 MW Kurram Tangi (stage-1), 4500 MW Diamer Bhasha dam, 128 MW Keyal Khwar and 34.5 MW Harpo projects.

They said three projects including Neelum Jhelum, Tarbela 4th and Golen Gol would start supplying 2,487 MW to the national grid by december next year.

The said the said projects were at advance stage and would help bridge demand and supply gap of the power shortfall.

Similarly, the sources said 34.5 MW Harpo hydropower would be ready by 2019 while 2,160 Dasu stage-1 would start generation by March 2020.
