0.6 million tonnes sugar to be imported

Pakistan would import 600,000 tonnes of sugar to meet the increasing demands, said Sugarcane Commissioner Nazar Muhammad Baloch. Talking to Geo TV, he said the expected production of sugar in Sindh was 720,000 tonnes, while the cane production in the provinces was eight million tonnes.
The overall cane production was 47.5 million tonnes in the current season, he said, adding that out of 31, about 28 sugar mills had started crushing process in the season.
