Awareness programme for special children

14 Dec, 2005

Karachi-based artist, social worker and human rights activist, Jimmy Engineer is organising an 'Awareness Programme for Special Children' in Lahore towards the end of January next.
A large number of mentally-retarded, physically handicapped, deaf, dumb and blind children from as many as 20 public and private sector special education institutions and training centres will be invited to this programme. Jimmy, who has been organising Fun, Food and Awareness Programmes for Special Children in Karachi for over four years, has decided to organise this programme in Lahore, Islamabad and other cities of the country in due course of time.
This programme would help bring forth the hidden and unexplored potentials and artistic skills of the physically handicapped, mentally retarded, deaf, dumb and blind children and make people from different walks of life realise the children suffering from one disability or the other need special care, love, attention and affection.
Moreover, Jimmy said in a statement that 'objective of this programme is to create greater awareness about the rights of special children apart from supplementing the efforts being made by the educational institutions for their training and education'.
