What went between the honourable members of the national assembly Kishan Bheel, PML(N), and Qari Gul Rehman MMA, the other day was most unfortunate. From what is reported in the press both seem to be at fault.
Bheel equated the Qari with a Darbari Maulvi, and the Qari snubbed him back with a 'shut up, you Hindu' call. Bheel, provoked at the use of the word 'Hindu' in the implied derogatory manner that the Qari Sahib had meant retaliated with the slaps across the MMA member's face, twice. Unfortunate, as I said. However, still more unfortunate is way the concerned political parties and a few other mediators in between are behaving.
Despite the PML(N)'s unconditional apology, the MMA is giving the incident a religious taint without caring much for the communal disharmony that it could arouse. Qari Sahib wants the matter to be decided according to the Shariat and has avowed not to forgive Bheel.
Qari Sahib, being a learned scholar, must have also come across the Quranic injunction in such matters , saying, 'not only not to exceed but to forgive, for it is better for you'.
Politically, too, MMA needs and would need in time to come the PML(N) and vice versa. Please show some sense of maturity and preserve the sanctity of the parliament. Forget and forgive each other.
I assure you, that you will become the best of the friends.
