Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal President Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that all the opposition parties have agreed to launch countrywide movement for restoration of Constitution, independence of judiciary and taking out the country and nation from crisis.
"Leaders of Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD), Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (PONM) and civil societies have accepted our invitation and they have agreed to launch a countrywide movement," he said, while talking to senior columnists and journalists here at a local hotel.
Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi Amir Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, MPA Nasrullah Shajee and JI Central Information Secretary Shahid Shamsi were also present on the occasion.
Qazi expressed the hope that after announcing the schedule of movement frustration of masses would come to an end and they would support democratic forces. He alleged the constitutional and democratic institutions were paralysed, Parliament has been made a "rubber stamp" and judiciary has been made ineffective by the rulers.
"No institution in the country has left which can be approached for restoration and supremacy of the Constitution," he said, adding that there is no other option, but to get rid from undemocratic rulers by "street power" after contacting the masses.
He accused the US ambassador in Pakistan of interfering in the internal affairs of the country and termed it violation of the diplomatic norms and contrary to diplomatic practices.
The MMA president admitted that both the civil and military governments were involved in destroying the constitutional institutions of the country and not respecting provincial autonomy.
He said the present military regime had crossed all the limits and it did not bothers to take the Parliament into confidence while taking decision on important national issues.
"Even the public representatives were not taken into confidence on earthquake relief and rehabilitation operation and all the matters were decided in the National Security Council (NSC) where all commands are in hands of generals," he said.
He alleged that the government had created Kalabagh Dam issue keeping in view increasing foreign pressure on transparent distribution of aid among the quake victims and to divert the attention of the people from economic crisis.
He accused the government of spending millions of rupees on luxuries by purchasing new VIP aircraft and establishing new GHQ.
On the 17th Amendment, the MMA president said that the alliance gave army a save passage of return, but President Musharraf backed out from his promise and betrayed the entire nation.
He also criticised the government for oil price hike and alleged that the government made the life of common man miserable. He said that despite 25 percent reduction in the petroleum products' prices in the global market the government is not willing to reduce the petrol prices in the country. He accused the government of patronising Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which is involved in torturing and manhandling incidents of teachers and students in Karachi.
Qazi also criticised the government for making changes in educational curriculum and said such exercises are part of the government's campaign to remove the Islamic identity of the country.
He denied the allegation about involvement of Jamaat's people in any corruption regarding purchase of plots and said Jamaat had always raised voice against corruption at every fora.
