PA body decries slow pace of work on Malakand roads

The members of provincial assembly (PA) Standing Committee on Planning and Development Department expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of Malakand Rural Development Project (MRDP) and Frontier Highway Authority (FHA) in the construction of roads in Malakand Division.
The Chairman of PA body MPA Pir Muhammad Khan regretted that as a result of slow pace of work on roads, the parliamentarians had to undergo an awkward situation while facing the people.
The committee called for accelerating the pace of work on all portions of under construction roads throughout the Malakand Division. She asked for MRDP and FHA to submit their monthly progress reports to the committee.
The committee observed this during its meeting that held under the chairmanship of MPA Pir Muhammad Khan at the Conference Room of NWFP Assembly Secretariat Peshawar on Thursday.
MPAs Malik Amirzada Khan, Mst Sabira Shakir, Mst Nargis Zain, Engineer Hamid Iqbal and Saeed Gul, Project Director Malakand and Rural Development Project Muhammad Ashfaq Khan, DG SDU Fakhre Alam, Director Frontier Highway Authority Sayed Amjad Shah, Chief Engineer PHE Muhammad Aslam Khan, Chief Engineer P&D Aftab Durrani, Deputy Secretary Law Muhammad Saleem Khan, Deputy Secretary NWFP Assembly Javed Latif and officers of Finance, P&D, MRDP and FHA attended the meeting.
The Standing Committee also opposed ADP umbrella scheme and recommended that next ADP should be framed on equal distribution of development schemes.
It was also recommended that development grants should equally be distributed among the parliamentarians.
The committee also expressed displeasure over huge salaries and concessions being given to the MRDP employees and asked for revision of the decision. The committee was also briefed on P&D policy on the closed tube wells in the province.
Meanwhile, a meeting of sub committee of the Public Accounts Committee on Health met in the opposition chamber under the chairmanship of MPA Khalil Abbas in which different matters relating to the health department were discussed. MPAs Khalid Waqar Chamkani and Pir Muhammad Khan attended the meeting beside officers of the health and audit departments.
