Lawyers boycott court proceedings

16 Dec, 2005

Lawyers on Thursday boycotted the proceedings of all district courts in Karachi in protest against manhandling incident of a lawyer allegedly by personnel of National Logistics Cell (NLC).
Hundreds of lawyers, led by the leaders of Karachi Bar Association (KBA), took out procession from city courts and staged sit in at M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi.
They chanted slogans against the provincial administration for not arresting the culprits involved in the manhandling incident.
The protest campaign of lawyers continued for the last three days after the manhandling incident of Advocate Raees Tanoli in Korangi area on December 12 by NLC men.
The lawyer alleged that he was allegedly beaten by the NLC men after minor traffic accident. He said he was also kept in illegal custody for over seven hours.
Addressing a protest rally, KBA President Mehmoodul Hasan and General Secretary Khalid Mumtaz strongly condemned the provincial administration for not arresting the culprits involved in manhandling incident despite registration of FIR.
They said if culprits were not involved the action committee would decide further line of action after the elections of the KBA.
