Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive committee, in a meeting on Wednesday, expressed concern over the worsening law and order situation and urged police authorities to arrest criminals, who had deprived businessmen of Rs 3.5 million at gunpoint.
The traders were coming from Multan to Faisalabad along with cash previous night when dacoits intercepted their vehicle near Shorkot and deprived them of their amount and valuables at gunpoint and fled.
FCCI President Mian Muhammad Hanif chaired the meeting, which demanded of Faisalabad DIG to arrest criminals and ensure recovery of the amount.
Meanwhile, transport workers staged a protest demonstration on Faisalabad-Samundri road to condemn killing of a wagon driver, who was killed by dacoits.
Reportedly, a gang of dacoits tried to stop a wagon to loot passengers at gunpoint but the driver refused to stop his vehicle. They shot and killed the driver instantly over his refusal.
The protestors, including drivers and transport workers erected barricades at the city roads, which caused traffic jam for several hours.
Later, SP Headquarters Amjad Karim and DSP Samundri Mian Mansoor Ahmad along with a heavy police contingent reached there and dispersed the protestors.
