Provincial Forest department has initiated a programme for breeding of 'silk worms' in Punjab and over two thousand acres of land was being utilised in Changa Manga area for the purpose.
The forest department was actively considering expanding sphere of silk worms breeding programme including Sialkot and other districts having the mulberry trees in abundance. The expanded programme of silk worms would not only cater the needs of silk manufacturing industry but also help in the promotion of the programme.
The step was being taken for the promotion and expanding silk worms breeding programme in the Punjab, official sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
In addition to this, the government in collaboration with the Forest Department had also started a programme for overcoming the pollution caused by the industrial sector through the plantation of Eucalyptus trees in Punjab, sources added.
Special measures have been taken for planting eucalyptus trees along with seasonal nullahs because eucalyptus plants have the capacity of sucking the water and this practice would help minimising the pollution load in Punjab.
