NAB restores possession of PMHS land

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has restored the possession of land of Pakistan Medical Housing Society, Lahore, and ballot to allot the plots to the victims will be held on 18th of this month.
According to NAB spokesman here on Friday, Pakistan Medical Co-operative Housing Society was formed in 1990 under Co-operative Act 1925 with its president Dr Azhar Atta Malik, who enjoyed considerable clout in civil and official circles. He defrauded the innocent members and deprived them of their legitimate and hard-earned money, besides misappropriating approximately Rs 230 millions from the society funds.
Members of the society ran from pillar to post for justice but to no avail. However, the action committee comprising members of co-operative society approached NAB, which investigated the case and filed a reference in Accountability Court against the accused, Dr Azhar Atta Malik.
After going through elaborate judicial procedures the accused finally standed convicted. He has been awarded 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 130 million, which is to be recovered from his personal assets. Now, the NAB Punjab with co-operation of Co-operative Department and present management of the society has restored the possession of the land.
