Chancellor Punjab University/Governor Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd), has asked Punjab University (PU) administration to forge technical collaboration with industries, as this relation would improve the quality of the education and make its programmes more market-oriented.
He stated this while inaugurating the four-year bachelor programme and Higher Education Block at Hailey College of Commerce here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that the college should introduce new programmes keeping in view the market requirements. He asked the students to acquire knowledge about the commodity markets, fluctuations in stock exchange, Islamic banking and the insurance system.
Khalid said the government would not increase fee of programmes and resources would be provided to university to ensure provision of education at subsidised fee structure. He stressed the need for incorporating changes in curriculum keeping in view the fast change global education.
Speaking on the occasion Principal Hailey College of Commerce Professor Dr Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad said multimedia computers, well-equipped library and all facilities have been provided to the students.
The governor inspected different classrooms and inquired from the students about facilities being provided to them at the university. He announced five buses for the students of evening classes. He said students wing of political parties would not be allowed to operate at the campus because students have come here to get knowledge instead of indulging in politics.
PU VC Arshad Mahmood said on this occasion that government is spending about Rs 75,000 on a student while it charges only Rs 6,000 to 8,000. He said the university is providing proper security to its students at its own whereas, Karachi University has 700 law enforcement personnel, Peshawar University has 365, UET has a proper check post.
