FST issues notice to PTV managing director on new postings

18 Dec, 2005

Federal Services Tribunal has admitted a petition of three PTV Senior Controller News against appointment of Ehsan Qadir Hashmi as Director News and Current Affairs and Quatrina Hussain as Chief Editor News for regular hearing and issued notice to Managing Director Pakistan Television Corporation for January 5, 2006.
In their joint petition, three Controller News of the State-owned PTV Hamid Saeed Rajput, Sarwar Munir Rao and Azhar Masood have challenged the recent appointments of Ehsan Qadir Hashmi and Quatrina Hussain on the plea that PTV MD has made these appointments without approval of the federal government and were therefore null and void in the eyes of the law.
They contended that after retirement of A Shakoor Tahir, Director News, they being in the channel of promotion had legitimate expectation of elevation but were ignored without assigning any reason.
The petitioners argued that Ehsan and Quatrina are contract employees, therefore they could not be appointed on regular posts without following the procedure laid down in the PTV service structure and approval of the competent authority.
After hearing preliminary arguments of the petitioners counsel, Riaz Sheikh, the Federal Services Tribunal issued notice to the respondents for January 5, 2006.
