Pakistani Army soldiers have built 64,000 shelters for the earthquake victims using the corrugated iron sheets in earthquake-hit areas of Hazara Division of NWFP and Azad Jammu Kashmir so far.
Over 10,000 shelters are still under progress that will be completed within couple of days and these would help save the earthquake victims from the increasingly harsh winter and cold particularly for those living above 5,000 feet height.
Local people with the help of different NGOs have also constructed 39,000 shelters that have proved helpful to save the people from the cold winter conditions.
Army troops are also assisting the civil administration in disbursement of compensatory amount to the people and till today Rs 14,374 million have been disbursed among 44,594 next of kins of the deceased who lost their lives in severe earthquake, 19,500 injured persons and 379,496 owners of the damaged houses by earthquake.
Over Rs 8,013 million have been disbursed in Azad Kashmir and Rs 6,360 million have been disbursed in affected areas of NWFP.
Data also reveals that over 95 percent roads in the affected areas have also been cleared by troops of army engineers and similarly 75 percent of water supply, 70 percent electricity supply and 96 percent of telecommunication facilities, that were damaged badly by earthquake, have been restored.
There are 105,592 telephone connection in Azad Kashmir out of these 20,294 were disrupted and all these have been restored by the special communication organisation.
Special communication organisation has also provided alternative telephone facilities in the affected areas and as many as 110 Thuraya PCOs and 99 PCOs were installed in the earthquake-hit areas.
