President Pervez Musharraf said here on Monday that he expected India to positively respond to Pakistan's proposals for increased contact between the Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control.
The President was talking to UN Foundation delegation, led by media tycoon Ted Turner, whose members called on him on the conclusion of its three-day visit to the quake-hit areas over the weekend.
The President thanked Turner and the UN Foundation for the assistance provided for earthquake relief and efforts to generate more funds. He also appreciated UN Foundation's active role in controlling polio and other diseases, and thanked Turner for the Foundation's assistance for Pakistan's Polio Eradication Programme.
Turner, who had visited the affected areas with his 20-member delegation on Sunday, said that they all had been extremely impressed by very effective response of the Government of Pakistan to the disaster, and the exceptional relief work being coordinated by Pakistan Military.
He appreciated the policy of the President for initiating the peace process with India.
The President said that the earthquake had provided an opportunity for building further links between the Kashmiris on both sides, which should not have been missed. Pakistan had conveyed proposals to India in this regard, which he hoped would be reciprocated.
With regard to the social and educational work being assisted by the UN Foundation world-wide, the President expounded on the work being done by Pakistan National Commission for Human Development, whose Chairman, Dr Nasim Ashraf, was also present in the meeting.
