President General Pervez Musharraf on Monday said Pakistan would continue its investment-friendly policies in a transparent manner. Speaking to Orascom Telecom chairman and chief executive officer Naguib Sawiris, the President said Pakistan offers vast investment opportunities in a number of fields, including information technology.
The government, he said, has provided a level playing field to local and foreign entrepreneurs, which has led to sustained growth in economic activity.
Appreciating investor-friendly environment, Sawiris said his company, Mobilink, is laying a 6,000km long optic fibre cable network in Pakistan.
He said the submarine cable project of Orascam Telecom would be completed by April next year.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, talking to a delegation led by Naguib Sawiris, said transparency, consistency in policies, privatisation and deregulation in cellular sector had enabled Pakistan to achieve the second highest growth rate in Asia.
He said Pakistan would achieve the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) of between 2 to 3 billion dollars this year due to better overall economic growth and a broad based structural reform agenda implemented by the government during the last six years.
The Prime Minister Shaukat urged the Orascom chairman to invest in other areas in addition to telecom.
