Pakistan and India on Tuesday held parleys at the technical experts meeting to carve out terms of reference and modalities for undertaking first-ever joint survey of Sir Creek.
Surveyor General of Pakistan Major General Jamilur Rehman Afridi is heading a 12-member delegation at the talks. While the Indian side is being led by Brigadier Girish Kumar, Deputy Surveyor General.
Deputy High Commissioner to India Munawar Saeed and Naval Advisor at the Pakistan High Commission, Captain Mateen-ur-Rehman also attended the meeting.
Technical experts meeting on the first day of the two-day parleys was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, informed sources said, adding, a joint statement indicating modalities of the joint survey is likely to be issued on Wednesday.
Earlier, talking to APP special correspondent at South Block ahead of the talks, leader of Pakistan delegation Major General Afridi said the technical aspects of the joint survey of Sir Creek would be discussed in a threadbare manner with the Indian counterpart.
Responding to a question, Surveyor General of Pakistan told that an agreement would be inked later between the two sides after the finalisation of the modalities in this regard.
Both sides are holding technical level talks to carry out discussions held in October last, when two sides agreed on the survey of Sir Creek as a preliminary step to find out a lasting solution.
Sir Creek is one of the eight areas, being discussed under composite dialogue process between the two countries.
Next round of the dialogue is slated to commence next month -January 2006.
