A leading social worker Rana Akhtar Ali, his son Rana Suleman were shot dead, while another son Sohail Ahmad seriously injured when they resisted a dacoity bid in Malikpur on Sheikhupura Road, here on wee hours of Tuesday.
According to details, six unidentified armed dacoits barged into the house of Rana Akhtar Ali at 03:30 am and overpowered the family members, including the women, at gunpoint and collected the valuables and cash etc from the house. However, Rana Akhtar Ali, his sons Rana Suleman and Sohail Ahmad offered resistance, and the dacoits opened fire, killing Rana Akhtar Ali, and his son Rana Suleman and injuring second son Sohail Ahmad.
Dacoits fled after snatching mobile phone and other valuables, leaving Rana Akhtar Ali and his sons in a pool of blood.
The injured Sohail Ahmad was rushed to the Allied Hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.
Residents of the area stated that they had informed the police in time but they reached after two hours after deciding the jurisdiction of the police station area.
Nishatabad police have registered a murder case.
In another dacoity incident, four armed dacoits posing themselves as patients entered a private hospital at Satayana road here on Monday night and called a doctor. When the doctor and other staff members came to attend them, the dacoits pulled out their weapons and made off with cash, mobiles, valuable machinery and one motorcycle worth over Rs 300,000 after holding the staff members at gunpoint.
Police have registered a case on the report of medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Tanveer Hussain.
