KESC move to overcome power failure

24 Dec, 2005

Taking notice of sudden power failures due to tripping on early Tuesday morning (December 20) during the first winter rains, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Chief Executive Officer Frank Scherschmidt immediately mobilised the engineers and technical workforce and directed them to clean all the distribution network poles, KESC spokesman said on Friday.
For the purpose, the CEO has also laid down the procedure that two workers would be deployed for cleaning one pole and at a time three poles would be cleaned so that the work is completed within two to three hours and power shutdown schedule should be formulated with prior information to the consumers.
To give the KESC engineers and workers motivational boost, Frank Scherschmidt personally guided and supervised the beginning of the cleaning drive at Abdullah Haroon Road.
The CEO told the KESC engineers, "I had brought the photograph of the KESC pole from Germany. It is right in front of KESC head office, the centre of the city's business and commercial hub we began the cleaning from here," he added.
While on the similar pattern the zonal managers of each area would supervise the cleaning campaign within respective zones and complete it before onset of the next monsoon to fulfil the new management's desire of providing stable power supply to the consumers during the challenging summer season.
