24 Dec, 2005

Kalabagh Dam (KBD) project will help to generate cheaper hydel power besides providing jobs to thousands of skilled and unskilled people, said Provincial Minister and Punjab Assembly Chief Whip Pir Ghulam Mohyuddin Chishti here on Friday.
Talking to newsmen, he said the construction of new water reservoirs was a dire need of the country without which our fertile lands would turn barren.
He said the much-needed Kalabagh Dam was not only essential to meet country's agriculture needs but also badly needed to produce the cheaper hydel power.
Pir Ghulam Mohyuddin Chishti said the dam project would also generate thousands of new jobs for skilled and unskilled manpower.
He said the provinces of NWFP, Balochistan and Sindh would also be benefited from the Kalabagh Dam, adding it would be a multi-purpose mega project for the uplift of the country.
He said that with the completion of this project, vast tracts of the land would come under cultivation all over the country and income of the farmers would certainly increase.
The provincial minister said that opponents of the KBD were just politicising a purely technical issue only to serve their personal interests and were damaging a national.
