Contraceptives industry to be set up with Chinese help

28 Dec, 2005

The government plans to set up 'contraceptives production industry' in collaboration with China, which has rich experience in the field of population, reproductive and family health, official sources told Business Recorder.
"We intend to benefit from the Chinese experience in population, reproductive health, family planning and establishment of contraceptives industry in the country," they said.
According to sources, Pakistan will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China, which has successful family planning programme and has achieved remarkable success in bringing down its growth rate, which helped in reducing poverty.
They said that the Chinese Family Planning Commission had forwarded a draft MOU, which was to be signed during the visit of President Musharraf in November last, but was postponed due to October 8 earthquake.
The draft MoU was circulated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Law, and Economic Affairs Division and their comments have been incorporated in the draft.
Sources said that the Cabinet had also cleared the proposal.
