Five people have filed the nomination papers for the slot of District Naib Nazim, while two Pakistan Muslim League candidates for Town Naib Nazim have returned unopposed.
The elections for the Naib Nazims for District and seven towns of the Rawalpindi district were scheduled on December 28 and the election would be by show of hand procedure.
Muhammad Nawaz and Abdul Salam of Ruling PML have returned unopposed as Town Naib Nazim for Kalar Syeddan and Kotli Sattian towns respectively. Monday was set as filing for nomination papers and five candidates have filed nomination papers for the District Naib Nazim.
Ruling PML has fielded Afzal Khokhar as candidate for district Naib Nazim, while opposition has failed to reach on consensus for joint candidate. Mian Imran Hayat filed nominations from PPP, while Ziaullah Shah from PML (N). Two independent candidates Azhar Iqbal Satti and Ilyas Mehmood also filed nominations.
The PML has failed to field a unanimous candidate for town Naib nazimship of Rawal town as in spite of Farooq Azam, Rana Suhail Pasha of the PML has also filed nominations. Rao Akram and Sardar Shakeel of PML (N) have also filed nominations, while Asad Mughal fielded from PPP. Four independent candidates Nasir Mir, Shabir Abbasi, Muhammad Bashir and Sardar Raza have also filed nominations.
Two nomination papers were filed for Town Naib nazimship of Potohar. The PML candidate Chaudhary Farooq filed nominations while no opposition candidate came in this stronghold of Rajas of Dhamiyal. Mazhar Iqbal filed nominations as independent candidates.Three candidates have filed nominations for Town Naib nazimship of Murree including PML candidate Ziaur Rehman supported by Town nazim Sardar Saleem. Two other candidates Mirza Suhail Baig and Usman Abbasi are being supported by dissident of PML Almas Abbasi.
Raja Sultan Masood of PML has filed nominations for the town naib nazimship of Kahuta while Sultan Khan and independent candidate also filed nomination papers. Polling would be held on December 28 (Wednesday) in which newly elected councillors would elect Naib Nazim by show of hand. The electoral college for District naib naizm would be 251 and candidate who attain 126 votes would return successful.
