'Reservoirs vital to progress'

NWFP Minister for Information, Asif Iqbal Daudzai said that the construction of water reservoirs was imperative for progress and prosperity of the country.
Speaking in a PTV programme "News Night" on Thursday, he said: "We believe that construction of water reservoirs is necessary for the prosperity of agriculture sector, which is the backbone of the country."
He said work on the construction of water reservoirs should be started immediately on identified sites favourable to the country's economy.
To a question about Kalabagh Dam, he said work on the dam should be started with the consensus of all the provinces.
NWFP MPA Nighat Yasmeen Aurakzai said construction of Kalabagh Dam should be initiated in view of the larger interest of the country. She said it was totally wrong to say that construction of Kalabagh dam would affect NWFP.
She also favoured the construction of other water reservoirs to overcome water shortage in future.
