Punjab to ensure pure food stuff supply: minister

04 Jan, 2006

Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said the government will ensure the supply of standardised and pure food stuff to the citizens and relevant law will be strictly implemented and a new legislation was on anvil.
He said no one will be allowed to make money at the cost of human lives and the common man is not satisfied with the standard of food items and the government will leave no stone unturned for the provision of standard and quality food items.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Faisalabad traders/retailers, who met him in his office regarding supply of pure foodstuffs to the people and checking of adulterated items by the provincial health department.
The meeting was informed that the Punjab health department did not notify food inspectors appointed in various cities and they are actually sanitary inspectors who are posted as food inspector by the local administration.
The minister assured the delegation that no government official would be allowed to violate the procedure and regulations and they will not be allowed to disgrace the traders community. He, however, asked the traders community to point out the black sheep from their ranks so that legal action could only be taken against the violators of law.
Dr Tahir Ali Javed said the procedure of sample testing the laboratories would be made more effective and speedy so that legal action could be taken against those responsible of adulteration, adding the violation of hygienic principles in food stuff were causing a number of dangerous diseases, including cancer.
He assured them that law relevant to food items, which is almost 50 years old, would be amended according to the requirements of the modern era and new legislation would be passed in this regard.
The members of the delegation thanked the minister and assured the government their co-operation in ensuring supply of quality and pure food items and eatables to the people.
