GCU celebrates 143rd anniversary

A cake cutting ceremony to celebrate 143rd anniversary of GC University Lahore was held at the vice-chancellor's committee room here on Tuesday, which was attended by the heads of different departments of the varsity.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Aftab said the GCU had glorious historical traditions of educational excellence, and they were trying to keep their educational standards in line with the modern day quality, and research based needs. He maintained they were trying to project the suave image of the varsity in consonance with the provision of capacity building of the students to enhance their intellect and wisdom.
Those who attended the ceremony included Dr Sohail Ahmed Khan, Dr M A Kashmiri, Dr Kausar Sohail, Dr Zaheer Ahmed Siddiqi, Professor Abdus Sabur, Professor M Azhar Chaudhry, Professor Iqbal Anjum, Professor Khadim Ali Khan, Professor Mirza Ather Baig, Dr Khalid Pervaiz, Dr M Sharif Mughal, Dr Faisal Khokhar and Dr Qais Aslam.
The GC University is also going to hold two-day International History Conference 2006 on 6 to 7 January under the aegis of the History Department of the varsity. GCU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Aftab would be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the conference.
The first day of the conference will include three sessions while the second day will comprise of four sessions. A number of national and international keynote speakers will address the conference.
On the first day, experts will discuss topics of 'Colonialism: Concepts & its Implications on Punjab, 'Colonial Governmentality and Modernity in the Punjab' and 'Economy and Infrastructure.' While the topics of 'Colonialism, Cultural Transformation and Identity Formation', Themes in Resistance', 'Communalism and Modern Politics in Punjab and (De) Colonising Education' will come under discussion on the second and last day of the moot.
