The Chairman & CEO Tariq Kirmani addressed the ground engineers of PIA and presented awards for achievement in different categories. Addressing the ground engineers he reviewed PIA's performance in 2005 and their role in it.
Improvement, he maintained, was only true when outsiders say PIA has improved, and by outsiders he meant the passengers. As an example he cited the comment cards and said that not only their number had increased from 160 per week to 1,700 per week but also how the passenger complaints had reduced from 42 percent to 20 percent in 2005.
Similarly, he mentioned that the measure of engineering complaints was how many defects were rectified and how the utilisation of aircraft had increased. He said another measure of the overall performance last year was that by the reduction in fares on domestic flights even PIA made a revenue gain of 18 percent and a market share growth by 10 percent.
He said the airline had three stakeholders namely the customers, the shareholders and the employees. All had to be satisfied, and success would be when they all are.
He talked of the 3C's concept of Convenience, Comfort and Competitiveness all served with a smile.
He said that we will be continuously updating our fleet with new aeroplanes each year and attempt to reduce the average age of the fleet from 20 plus years now to 9 years.
The Chairman & CEO Tariq Kirmani then distributed the awards to the "Best Cross Functional Team", "Best Quality Circle Team" and the winners of "Going an Extra Mile Award".-PR
