Nasreen sworn in as naib nazim

City Naib Nazim-elect Nasreen Jalil took the oath of her office on Tuesday at an impressive ceremony held at Baradari Bagh-e-Jinnah here. District Returning Officer Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan, who is also district and sessions judge, Karachi South, administered the oath to first women Karachi Naib Nazim.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, members of Sindh cabinet, MPAs, elected members of local government institutions of city, members of diplomatic missions, businessmen, notables, etc.
The ceremony commenced with the reading of the official notification of election of Nasreen Jalil to City Naib Nazim by Karachi DCO Fazalur Rahman. Thanking Allah Almighty, Nasreen Jalil expressed her gratitude to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain for nominating her for the prestigious slot.
She pledged that being the convenor of the City Council, Karachi, she would treat all the members without any discrimination and considering party affiliation of members.
Nasreen said that along with the legislative business in the Council, which is monitoring the working of city government through different committees so that hard-earned money of public would be utilised in a right way.
She said that City Nazim Mustafa Kamal is striving for serving the Karachiites, which, she termed, the hallmark of Haq Prasat leadership.
Nasreen also appreciative of President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan.
She appealed to business community to invest in Karachi because there is no bottleneck to do business here, and asked them not to limit themselves to only profit but come forward and own the city.
"Please own the city and act like a Karachiites because the progress of Pakistan lies in development of Karachi", she urged the businessmen. Earlier, Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan said that he has a unique honour of administering oath of the City Nazim and the City Naib-Nazim of both previous and present city governments of Karachi.
"Returning Officers did a marvellous job by conducting fair and peaceful elections to pave the way for election of real representatives of Karachi", he added.
