Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon on Tuesday said with vast technical expertise and know-how Pakistan could help Syria to promote its mineral sector.
He said this while talking to the Ambassador of Syria Dr Riad Ismat who called on him here and discussed matters pertaining to promoting the bilateral co-operation between the two countries.
The Minister said Pakistan attached great importance to its brotherly relations with the Muslim countries and making concerted efforts for expanding and strengthening the bonds of fraternity for the mutual advantages. Amanullah Jadoon said Pak-Syria Joint Ministerial Commission could play a meaningful role to open avenues of bilateral interaction in diversified fields including the petroleum sector.
The Minister said the government was taking concrete steps for the utilisation of indigenous oil and gas resources in order to cut down dependence on imported fuel. He said during the last few years, the mineral sector had attracted an unprecedented investment in Pakistan and it could help Syria to evaluate their mineral proven reserves.
Later, the Syrian Envoy thanked the Minister for extending warm welcome and said his country had vast mineral potential. Both countries can cooperate in the mineral development activities for their mutual benefit, he added. Secretary Petroleum Ahmad Waqar and Director General (Mineral) Rashid Malik were also present during the meeting.
