The Leader of the Opposition Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday reiterated his offer to cooperate with the government for peace in Waziristan. Talking to reporters in his parliament chamber he said the Ulema along with the political agent and member National Assembly Nek Muhammad had been patrolling the areas in Waziristan urging people to remain calm.
"I had called a Jirga meeting of the Ulema from North and South Waziristan in Dera Ismail Khan. Some 300 of them came and unanimously agreed to work for peace and calm in Waziristan," Fazlur Rehman said.
"We want to resolve all the issues in an amicable way." He said he recently went to Waziristan to condole someone's death where he also addressed a large gathering and urged them not to fight and remain peaceful.
Replying to a question he said that the ratio of development in NWFP, when compared with Sindh and Punjab, was much better despite the fact that the province did not have ample funds.
"A large number of international organisations and NGOs have their projects in NWFP.
They are also running development programmes in other provinces. But I must say their implementation in NWFP was much better than the rest," he added. He said all the political parties had a unanimous stand on the issue of Kashmir.
