Executive Director of Consumer Protection Network Ayaz Kiyani on Wednesday called for strict implementation of consumer law, as a legal manifestation to protect consumers against hazardous products, services and restrictive trade practices.
He was addressing at a seminar on 'State of consumers' protection in country' held in connection with the International Consumers' Day being observe today.
Kiyani said protection of energy resources is also vital in the interest of consumers. He said changing global scenario demands rethinking and shifts from traditional approach to more effective and sustainable way of protecting the rights of consumers.
Advocate Azizur Rehman said economic reforms could further accelerate the process of deregulation, liberalisation and privatisation, which would ultimately benefit the consumers. He said the government has a dual role as a supplier and a regulator, adding, enhancing competition in the market would help stabilise prices of commodities.
